What is Antimalware Service executable?
Antimalware Service executable is a Windows service that comes with Microsoft’s antimalware. Antimalware Service executable is built-in software that keeps scanning our system, connections, and checks some sorts of viruses, spyware, Trojans and rootkits and other related applications in real-time. It offers real-time protection from being affected.
It is also the name of the process MsMpEng (MsMpEng.exe) used by the Windows Defender program. The service associated with this program is the Windows Defender Service.
As it keeps scanning all the newly downloaded files and monitoring all the ongoing activities in the system sometimes it leads to problems such as over CPU usage due to a file named msmpeng.exe making the computer very slow.
msmpeng.exe antimalware service executable sometimes does a Full Scan which may be scanning all files, when the computer wakes up from sleep or when it is connected to a network, or if scheduled to run daily. When it is doing a complete scan, the system will experience frequent lagging, hanging and delayed access/response from your input with the system, as the CPU is hijacked by Defender.
If it does this, be patient, let it run and scan to completion, if there are many files, it might take a few hours. Once complete it will release the CPU and the usage will drop down to its normal.
Though, Full scan should be done once in a while, not every day.
The process gets slow as there is low RAM availability. You start getting disturbed while working. The system might be restarted quite often. In this case, we should check the antimalware service executable which is a Windows service for security essentials and stop it.
Why does this happen, Antimalware service executable: msmpeng.exe?
msmpeng.exe is the one that causes the problem in the activities of Windows’s internal Antimalware service. At times it scans all the files and folders repeatedly eating out maximum CPU activities. Therefore the other software running on the PC gets slow or becomes non-responsive.
